What do you suggest happens, billy?

These children come in to the UK alone, with no identifying papers and are put in to a care home from where the abscond. Should they be kept in a prison or some secure unit until they are 18?

Every year 100,000 children go missing in the UK, and 1300 are still missing 2 weeks after being reported to the police. It is a massive problem and many of these children abscond from childrens' homes.

ALL children in the UK should have a safe home, but these Chinese children are the tip of the iceberg.
I've just read another report that states that institution is actually an assessment centre to determine whether the immigrants are children or not.
Many young adults claim to be children to avoid being detained by the Border Agency. Most in that institute are 16-20 year olds.
10 jumped out of windows, some disappeared during fire drills and others just walked out and got in to waiting cars.

What would YOU do about it?
Children, enter Heathow with no identifying documentation and no accompanying adults, should be stopped and sent back to their port of origin.
They should all be shot on sight.

(don't mean that really.........) :-)

Ethel, I read it more as the children are being taken from the home to be trafficked . Surely the duty of the home is to care for them ?
>with no identifying papers

Well if they come in via a plane to Heathrow they must have had papers to get on the plane.

I agree with sqad617, send them back to the airport they took off from.

I am fed up with this country being the dumping ground of the scum of the world.

Bit by bit we are being dragged down to the level of a third world country.
VHG,I have heard that they have papers when they got on the plane, and once it takes off they destroy them.
What proof do we have? From what your link said, these are merely allegations in a report in the Guardian newspaper.

Mmmmmhhhhhhh.......they wouldn't be trying to boost their readership figures by any chance? Just like any other rag on a newsagent's stand?
Yes, hilly - there is a duty of care, of course.

But other than keeping them under lock and key, what can they do?
Who said the children come through Heathrow airport? Is that a fact?
Does this put a different light on it?

Julian Worcester, the deputy director of children's services, told The Guardian, which obtained the leaked report: 'They were being trafficked and there has been organised movement through the facility.'

But he told the Mail that the unit - labelled a children's home by The Guardian - was actually an assessment unit where officials determine whether migrants who may be in their teens are children or not.

Most residents were between 16 and 20 years old, but economic migrants often claim to be under 18 so they will not be detained by the Border Agency, said Mr Worcester.

The leaked document highlighted a particular influx of Chinese youngsters who had paid people smugglers up to 15,000 a head to bring them to Britain, he said.
Ethel.....if not via Heathrow, it is a long way from China to UK by boat.
It is, sqad, but it's not straightforward, is it?
Ethel....may not be, but just a guess.

"He statement came in response to a question from John McDonnell, the Labour MP for Hayes and Harlington, which includes Heathrow."

So if that is the case, no papers on landing, you dont get in the country.

Send them back to the same airport they took off from.
The problem is, VHG that when passengers arrive at large UK airports they enter the arrivals area with the passengers from all flights that have recently landed.

Potential illegals (or call them what you will) may well have had papers enabling them to board the flight. As has been said, the usual procedure is to flush these down the kharzi as soon as the plane is airborne. People without papers can only be sent back whence they came (and this is perfectly acceptable even within our lax immigration rules) if it is known where they came from. At big airports, the authorities dont have a clue.

The answer is simple. Shift the immigration control from the common arrivals facility to each individual air bridge where the aircraft berth. No papers at that point, no entry to the country (whether adult or child), back on the aircraft there and then. The duty of care and the responsibility of getting the passenger back to the country of origin (and all the associated costs) rest with the carrier. (If the aircraft is not immediately returning to the same country, as is often the case, the illegal entrant remains the responsibility of the carrier and they must stay within the confines of the airport until they can make arrangements to get them back).

There will be practical difficulties but these will rest with the carriers. These commercial companies will soon rise to the challenge when the burden (and cost) of care is shifted from the taxpayer to them.

More staff will be needed to control entry at the individual air bridges. These can come from the troops currently in Afghanistan. Their efforts would bear much better fruit here keeping undesireables out than trying to control their activities in their homeland.

Its easy. But politically unacceptable (it does not happen at Dover where the authorities know where almost every arrival has come from) so it wont happen.
