Has anybody been to Brazil? What are the prices like? What can i get for my money? How much can a meal and a wine set me back in equivalent pounds. I've never been before and haven't met anybody who has. Can anybody help.

Depends on where in Brazil.  A meal that will cost US$5 for food in a small town may cost US$15 plus in San Paulo or Rio.  A good option is a barbeque (Churascaria, badly spelt), where for a fixed price (maybe as low as US$6) you can eat all the top brazilian beef you want, char grilled in rock salt - 20 different cuts!  You can also get pizza buffets (and yes, the chocolate pizza is real, and revolting)

A half litre of good local lager was about US$1.30 in a decent bar.  This was about 4 years ago
