there is a same day service at the passport offices

thanks bednods. What I should have said was via the royal mail.

Sorry. bednoBs.
Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a fast-track option other than - as bedaubs said - going to a local passport office. But even then you normally have to make an appointment first. The quickest method by Royal Mail is to use the Post Office's passport check service. It costs a few quid though!
2 weeks if you use check and send
Damn you, autocorrect! *BEDNOBS*

Cheers guys.
Looks like I'll have to wait one way or the other.Should have noticed the expiry date.
Mine was back in less than a week when I renewed.
No same day service anymore, my daughter in law needed a passport to get to her fathers funeral in France. The quickest takes around 4 days and that cost £105 you have to go to the passport office personally then they post it by special delivery you still can't just pick it up.
My son has just done a post application took 3 weeks start to finish.
By the way my son used the Post Office auto check and they got it wrong ! it was returned and the post office had to give him a refund of the check fee, then to add insult to injury the post ofice sent the refund to the wrong address , luckily our post man knows us and realised that the address was wrong and gave it to him anyway.
I never use the post office, I do it myself and they are always back within 2 weeks, the kids ones least year came back in 5 days.
Eddie, direct.gov is still saying you can get a 1 day passport £129.50, my friend had to do this last year.

Thanks guys. I think I'll change my plans.
Maybe Eddie51 is not British because according to this
http://www.direct.gov...ourpassport/DG_174097
there is still the same day service.
As Spudqueen indicates, the same-day service still exists for renewals (but not for new passports). The current waiting time for postal applications is around 2 and a half weeks.
And you can renew an out of date passport on the one day service, as least I did 10 years ago.

You can have a same day service - my son did it only recently. He had to make an appointment at the Passport Office, take all his documents in, and his passport was ready for him to collect 4 hours later. He was, however, only renewing it (his old one had already expired) - not sure if you can do it if it is for a first passport.
Sorry to come back to this but there is NO fast track or same day service for first passports, there still is for renewals . A first passport appilcant HAS to have an interview at a passport office and there is at present a 3 week wait for an interview. All due to ''increased security'' for new passports. But you only need a renewal even if your previous passport was as a child and you are now an OAP ( just taken my son for his passport interview !) As of last week they were quoting 5 weeks for a first passport due to the busy holiday season .
