How's your French...?
Question Author
grade a gcse 20 years ago nearly so pretty rusty :)
Er, so what have you got to offer that a native French engineer hasn't...?
Question Author
Nothing at all. I am actually pretty bad at my job. I regret the day I decided to do Engineering at university based on my good mathematical skills.
your not selling yourself well..
Wind-up...
what sort of engineer are you?
a mono lingual one

Just out of curiosity, if someone moved to France could they claim unemployment and housing benefit?
I would imagine they would get turned down for a visa if they had no money or job to start
Question Author
not a wind up seriously. I am a mechanical engineer.
You don't need a Visa to live in France, or indeed anywhere in the EU Cazz.
Perhaps look at the big multi-nationals who tend to do business in English.

Airbus is one, and they don't only employ aeronautical engineers.
thanks nox, I forgot we are EU doh!
Go on, then - I'll bite.

I have an honours degree in French. Imagine I'm the managing director of a French engineering firm. Explain to me, in French obviously, just why I should hire a semi-literate foreigner who, by his own admission, is "pretty bad" at his job.
The first Mr Craft was an engineer and he was offered a job by a French company. However, the job was installing print presses all over the world, so they actually wanted him because he spoke English.

Mark - turn your question on it's head.

An engineering company in France that wants to do business in the UK might value having an English speaker on their team to front for them in meetings with their English speaking clients.
