Spudqueen - sounds puzzling but yes it's true. If you fly from Dublin (or Shannon) to the USA there is a US immigration post at the airport. You clear immigration there and only have customs to worry about when you arrive in the US.
Nice cushy posting for the staff I would think.

Something similar exists at major Canadian and Caribbean airports.
Well I never knew that dzug! You learn something new everyday!
That's intriguing! So what happens when you arrive in the US? How do you bypass the queues?
When I did it to LA we were led to the baggage hall by the plane cabin crew, along a corridor that avoided immigration.
