Can't get laptop to connect to wireless.

Changed my ISP yesterday...I have signed up with BE...It all went flawlessly. They sent a text to say my line was now active. I fitted the router and sat down ready for a battle, but before you know it, the router had configured itself and was already connected to the net...
Having checked my speed a few times previously...I was getting approx 1.920 on download... and now get over 9.600...not bad considering I only have the 8mb package.

So I then tried to connect my daughters laptop to the new connection....I scanned for networks and found my network. I have followed the instructions and tried dozens of times to connect. But it keeps saying I am not using the right code. I am using the code that is on the router, as instructed, and it is in the right case.................Any ideas...?

Sorry I did'nt mention...the laptop is running with Vista and is only a few months old.
If there is security set up on the router (WEP or WPA) then you must make sure the laptop wi fi card is also using the same security.

With our old ISP we were using a WEP key and the laptop connected with no problems.
But with the new provider, the security key starts with WPA PSK...
Nice one VHG...I'll see if I can locate the setting's...It may take me a while as I never use a laptop....will let you know..Cheers

The laptop is a Sony and has wi-fi built in Vista o/s...any clues as to where I find the security settings.
Log into the router in the usual way .. as a webpage .. in the browser. You shoulkd have the IP address somewhere. You will need a pass to login. If you never changed it, try "admin"
Go to Wireless Settings .. network .. and look in security tab for existing settings. WPA or better still .. WPA2 is more secure than WEP. You may need to change to this type on Laptop and use the key shown in the "key" or "pass" box.

Thanks guys....I've managed to sort it out...I did manage to change the setting on the laptop to WPA...but it still would not connect.
I phoned the support line ( somewhere in eastern europe...and what a nice bunch they are ) and reported my problem. They said straight away that the problem was the router.
It appears that it was sent with a ''Bridge setting'' and could only allow one system to access through it. I was talked through it, and altered the settings as instructed.
We also changed the channel...the laptop connected immediately with a full signal using WI-FI.
It is faster than my desktop...which is hard wired..!
