There is a useful feature of this program that lets you customise all the menus and keyboard shortcuts to how you want them.  My problem is that every few weeks or so my customised setting are "forgotten" by PSP and reset to default.  I can get the positions of the palettes and tools in the main window back to normal by going to File > Workspace and loading up one of my saved workspaces, but the important settings are still lost and it takes me quite a while to put them back.  Can I stop this happening?  Even just knowing where the file is that has my stored settings in would be nice - then I could make a backup.

File > Preferences > File Locations might help you, I don't know which file specifically is the settings but it seems to give locations for them all. What is it that is causing your settings to be reset, is it after a regular update or anything? I use PSP 8 (Upgraded straight from 1, that was a shock) but have never had any problems with it forgetting preferences.

Thanks, tomd - I went into File Locations and I've tried putting the save-to location for "Workspaces" into the Jasc folder rather than Documents and Settings, just in case this makes any difference.  Stupidly, I have still not made a connection between the loss of settings and what I am doing to cause it (probably an update, like you said).  There's always System Restore, if it includes that sort of thing.

PSP 1?!  I don't know how you have been managing to use that!   8 is excellent though, and now there is even PSP9...maybe it's me, but they release these things so quickly I can never get used to the previous version!
