How do I clear my History?

I always go into Tools and clear cookies and private info, but have found that it all comes up on History, so how can I clear it please, thank you

P:S: I am on windows xp and Firefox 3.

Press start - then right click anywhere on the light blue start up menu (properties will appear) click and then click customise, then advanced and you will see somewhere it
says clear list, press this and wait until all history is cleared.

if that does not work try Tools - internet options - delete
and you will find delete files, delete cookies and delete history and delete forms.

Have done all that, but it says "this will not clear History" so now what? I've clear the list but it's still there.

but now, every time I close a window there appears a little box saying Clear private date (only mine's in Spanish so that's a rough translation) how can I stop this from appearing?
