How do you clear history files on a computer?

On the bar on the top of my computer it says history but how do I clear this? Many thanks! I use Mozilla Firefox......

The quick way is to go to
Tools > Clear Private Data
However, exactly what is cleared when you use that option will depend upon your individual settings. So, it's best to do the following first. (You'll only have to do it once):
Go to
Tools > Options > Privacy > Private Data > Settings
Decide what you want to delete when you 'clear private data'. Click OK.
Still in the Private Data panel, you can also place a check mark to ensure that Firefox always deletes your chosen data at the end of every session. Finally, you can click the the 'clear private data now' button to clean everything up. (In future, just follow the first two lines of this answer).
