I used to be able to clear history by clicking the open book sign at right top . It comes up bookmarks and history but no history showing and clear sign at bottom is not lit to be pressed to clear I cleared it by going in to settings . Any idea what I might have clicked on and how do I get it back.

Thanks for reply . When I first had ipad about 4 months ago I always done it by the little book sign on top right but last few days it has not worked from there. Have to do it from settings.
Question Author
Sorry yes Safari
I've only been using Safari for a few months so can't remember how I deleted the history, maybe when we all did the ios7 update the layout was changed. Have had a lookey round and can't see a way round going by the setting route.

that might be possible I will get my daughter to check hers to compare . Thanks.
Have your address bar and tabs gone black, if so you've gone into 'private' mode and it doesn't store history, click the plus sign and bottom left is the private option
Question Author
Rocky can you click on that open book on right top and tell me what you get >
Question Author
thanks for that fitzer I have found that but which one do I click it says close all keep all and cancel
Yes it will, but do your address bar and top of the screen have a black background, if they're still white then private browsing isn't the problem.
Question Author
no they have not got a black background
Question Author
It does say private bottom left
Right so not that, so when you go to history from the open book icon there isn't any history showing although you know you've been to multiple websites today for instance?
Question Author
yes that is right
Question Author
it has been like this for the last 2 weeks it was ok before that
Just tried mine and it works as it always has, exactly as you described yours working before. I can't see any option to NOT store history, only thing I could think of would be to enable and then disable private browsing (you can take the option to keep tabs) and then navigate to some new websites and see if history builds up then.
I've just clicked on the open book icon and deleted my history from there, I'm using safari.
Question Author
Thanks Fitzer I took the option to keep tabs then went to a few web sites woopee it is working . Thanks ever so much and thanks everyone for trying to help.
Just popping back to answer you about the open book lol, glad you got it sorted.
Question Author
