Noticed an undescribable smell coming from the cupboard under the stairs a couple of days after our cat brought me a baby mouse she'd caught last Monday. Pulled everything out, checked the floor (in the corners with a torch) - STENCH was amazing and gut wrenching. Cant find a body/bodies. Rang Env Health who advised the smell could last "a few days".

Have tried EVERYTHING. Burning candles worked for 10 minutes - bicarb worked for 15 minutes. The smell continues except now its like a diahorrhea smell that smacks you round the face when you walk into the house. HELP!!! Any advice?

Horrible isn't it? the smell wont go until the body decomposes I'm afraid, can you lift a couple of floorboards to see where it is.
Cats love to bring in little presents don't they.............bless!! you could get one of those plug in air fresheners that puff out every few minutes, would help a bit.

Thanks Illyria54 but scented (and I'm afraid even non-scented like Oust) is just mingling WITH the smell and making an even worse chemical reaction!!! Just wish my mouser was a better mouser and didnt just clip the mother (who's obviously gone away to die with the rest of the nest possibly) ..... bringing me a tiny baby (who has rushed out to get food) isnt helping.

Cant lift floorboards unfortunately as we're laminated! Guess we'll just have to put up - it cant be MUCH longer can it? I'm having trouble marrying the elephantine smell with the weeny creature as it is!!!
Yeah it's amazing how something so small can stink so much, if the smell doesn't start to diminish soon then you may have to take more drastic action. I live on a farm and smells like this aren't unusual as we have to put rat poison down but when it is in your home it's no joke, hope you have it sorted soon.
