It's time I switched from a dial-up service to a good broadband service. Trouble is, I don't know which is to be recommended, and which to be avoided. Any suggestions, anyone ?

hi, I have tried a few over the last four years and have come to the conclusion that they are all as good or bad as each other. B.T are expensive, I was with tiscali until a couple of months ago, got fed up with their e-mail page taking forever to load at peak times, so I changed to pipex, same price but faster, even though they use tiscali equipment in the telephone exchanges. the best for customer service was virgin net, all british call centres and would actually phone you back. tiscali and pipex use call centres abroad which are connected through satellite and sometimes it is difficult to hear one another even though they are helpful, but they never phone back or log your calls. tesco have good deals going with broadband and phone as a job lot, but I think pipex is cheapest but they will tie you into a one year contract ,whereas someof the others don't. beware of set up charges, make sure you get a free modem and check to see if the carphone warehouse can supply your phone service with FREE BROADBAND.have a look at price comparisons on the web and read the small print.
good luck,
alf.
I changed about 6 momths ago to Eclipse, and have had no problems with them whatsoever. They do a month by month contract, but you'll have to pay for the modem, or for a 1 year contract you get a free modem.
