Hatchback type, not too large. But quite easy to get into as we are getting old … Do they all have ‘screens’ now, as a display, I need something that shows the speedometer and petrol gauge as well as an easy to use sat nav, without having to press buttons, like an iPad, nothing complicated please! Which is the best model? Only selling my car due to ULEZ. Unfortunately. .

I have a Ford Ecosport, and I am now driving my second one. It's not a hatchback: the boot door opens sideways, but that isn't a problem. My car has 17 inch wheels, which means that the car sits quite high off the ground (my wife and I are also getting old). It has a screen, such as you describe, with satnav and other bits and bobs on it. You can check your tyre pressures on it, which means no bending down with a pressue gauge. The car has 6 gears, which is handy for petrol economy. When I am in 6th gear, the miles-per-gallon display goes up to 99.9 miles per gallon, if I go easy on the pedal. This car might not be a world beater, but it suits me and my wife.
When you have decided, do you intend to go to a "real" showroom...or buy online? If the latter, I can thoroughly recommend "carwow".
A very easy process and terrific savings from franchised dealers. I used them a few years ago and will certainly use them again.

Thanks, we want an automatic and would go to a showroom.

I don’t want electric or hybrid, just something petrol, straightforward and easy to understand dashboard. I am too old for all this high tech stuff.
The Honda Civic has a very ‘user friendly’ dashboard. Knobs to control the heating / vent rather than using the ‘screen’.

Thanks Zacs, I will put it on the list. Any others, ABers?
For easy in and out the Citroen C3 Aircross is good. Very easy to drive and does about 500 miles on a full tank of diesel.
The only real downside I've found is the leather steering wheel takes forever to warm up in this weather.
It does have a screen for most functions but you soon get used to it
ULEZ ?
No, that's my brother.
But to answer what I think is your question, yes, it is compliant.
