I have inadvertently put a formula into an Excel cell.

The cell now has a tiny green triangle in its bottom right corner.

How can I get rid of it please?

presumably theres a little exclamation mark in a triangle that comes up to the left of the cell too now to show its a different formula?
Just delete the cell or the whole row, replacing it with a blanl row or a other row if needed

Hi Guys - thanks for replying -

bhg - I havedone that, but when I go to re-insert the row which I have deleted, the symbol comes back.

Bob - no, no triangle.

Any further help gratefully received - thanks.
Sure the green triangle isnt in the top left corner of a cell? If it is if you highlight the cell the ! will come up in a diamond (not a triangle sorry) and this will explain the error/warning
On my excel if its a red triangle in the corner that means theres a comment inserted which you need to delete

What's happening is -

when i click on any cell on the sheet, it puts a green border around it, and a small green square on the bottom right of the cell - is this a problem?

Maybe it's nothing??

Thanks.
I was suggesting you delete the contents of the one cell, not the whole row.
As an alternative, put the cursor in a blank cell and "copy"; put the cursor in the problem cell and "paste".
Sounds like the fill handle to me - normal behaviour.
So its happening on any cell you click on rather than jsut the same cell every time??
Is it causing you a problem Andy so long as the cell is doing what is suppose to do
Still sounds like an 'inconsistant formula ' to me. I get a green box round the cell too plus atriangle tab in top left corner then an ! mark in a diamond and adrop down box saying the formulas different to surrounding cells

bob - // Is it causing you a problem Andy so long as the cell is doing what is suppose to do //

Possibly not.

While I have your attention - do you know how to pick up a 'catagory' from a column and then ask Excedl to show you all the rows with that same catagory in it please?
Is the category listed in all the cells in a column (e g male/female) or LP/EP/Single_. I just tend to make a copy onto a new page and sort it by category when i need to. Theres probably an IF command but am no expert just selftaught
Click on “File” in the upper left of your excel document.
Click on “Options” in the lower left.
Click on “Formulas” in the left navigation column.
Uncheck the box that says “Enable background error checking”.
Click the “OK” button to save.
That sounds good APG. On mine I have to go File then Mor then Options then...
I like the formula check thing so have never removed that option but it may suit andy
/// no expert just self-taught ///

Not necessarily mutually exclusive :-)
just copy a blank cell over the top.
Maybe canary but I may not allways do things in the most efficient way and I never use some features like pivot tables
To find all instances of a category:
Select a cell with the category name in it. Press Ctrl+C
Press Ctrl+F to open the 'Find and Replace' window. Press Ctrl+V to paste the category name in the 'Find what:' field. Click the 'Find All' button and the list of occurrences will appear at the bottom of the window.
