Just been for a paper and cat food. Not much of a queue so got £30 of diesel.
Display says I have 600 miles in tank, should last a month.

Sparkly has exercised his right to buy petrol and spent £30 which many stations have imposed as a maximum purchase. It sounds as though this was done as one-stop shopping with other groceries etc., locally to him. Tbh, I don't think that was any more selfish than people who search for petrol for several days and run their engines whilst waiting in very long...

Did you get the right cat food?

Only likes Felix Good as it looks, doubly delicious.

Fussy little so and so.
Pretty good mileage for a tank. :-)

very good douglas,lol.
I just filled up my tank and it should last me until the middle of December as I am not planning on using my car any time soon

So if you only put £30 worth in and you now have 600 miles then you must have had a fair bit in already - if it is going to last you a month then you obviously were not planning on going very far so why fill up and take the fuel that someone else might be desperate for? This is surely the cause of the shortages.
Similar answer to johnny.5!
I also goy two jerry cans full so as I have enough to cut my grass next spring
I don't think I will need to mow it again this year

Am I Right ?
I'm Not Wrong !
Our local garage has a notice saying only £30 fuel to fill your car and no jerry can fill ups allowed. Priority given to essential workers showing there work ID. We put our usual £25 in. No queues and no shut down pumps.
Lankeela I'm with you on this! Why fill up your car if half a tank will last you 2 weeks? Our village garage has no more diesel or petrol because of morons driving up the dale to drain the fuel into their cars so they can go out for a country drive on a weekend. Meanwhile my SIL, who works for the NHS 30 miles away, has quarter of a tank of fuel left which will last him until tomorrow. All the pumps in the town he works in are currently out of order. Pathetic!
MIL did the same thing then complained about panic buyers - her tank will last her for a year as she only does 600 miles a year!
We did point out that she was part of the problem but she was not having any of it!
I agree, lankeela... I have less than 30 miles now, everywhere local is shut or out of petrol. I'm trying to do homecare, my sister is in the same position... We are already walking to everywhere possible, some aren't though.... it will soon be down to those with petrol to visit all their local vulnerable people at this rate. Good luck....

There was a very small queue so I decided to buy £30 worth. Won't be going again for a long time, hardly greedy.
Not greedy but unnecessary and means £30 less of fuel left for someone who might need it.

We shop once a week and a daily 2 mile trip to local shop.

£30 will last me a long time.

I think what people are trying to explain, Sparkly, is if what you have in the tank now will last you a long time (and it certainly will based on your predicted mileage) then what you had before you topped up with thirty quid's worth would have been more than adequate. Some filling stations over the last few days have seen sales rise by as much as 500% over normal. This is the cause of the local shortages, not the tanker driver problem. Everybody who is "topping up" when they would not usually do so and who do not really need to is contributing to the problem.
Sparkly -that extra £30 you topped up with , that you do not need, would have meant someone who was on empty could have had half a tank like you. Its selfish acts like yours that have caused this problem.
Surely everyone knows why SK posted the thread in the first place.
No we don't -enlighten us please do.
