You'd think that those guys in Amazon would try to make sure that Alexa's sold in the UK would reply in a way relevant to the UK.
This morning I said "Alexa, good morning" and was promptly informed that "daylight saving time" had occurred overnight along with something about people having an extra hour in bed. Err... FYI, this occurred last week in the UK Alexa.

Have you told your Alexa where it is located, mine greeted me with that last week
Question Author
What exactly did you say to it Fitzer to get it to realise its location?
I hope you'll apologize to Alexa!
Question Author
I thought mine was set up with its location as it gives me the weather in my town - it says the name of my town when it tells me the weather. I can't understand why it thinks the clocks went back last night here in the UK yet knows enough about my location to give me the local weather.
If you are getting local weather it may be the Time Zone that's out of synch.

Check in Settings.
....you actually greeted an Alexa-enabled piece of kit with "Alexa, good morning"....?
'Day saving time' gives people in the USA an extra hour in bed ... when does it start .. you've guessed it
... at 2.00am on 3 November.
As others have stated, go into settings and re-set your location.
Dont upset Alexa or you will have no one to talk to !
Could be a geolocation problem, where a block of an ISP's IP addresses are recorded as being in the wrong country.
It's happened with Plusnet, and I've no reason to think they're unique in this respect.

Gingejbee, yes I do! It normally gives you some interesting facts to do with the day every morning, although they do tend to be American orientated.

Alavahalf, I don't understand about the resetting of my location. Surely, it knows my location if it's providing me with the weather in my own town? How can it do this if it thinks it's in the USA? It seems a bit contradictory.
Question Author
Can't be the time zone as it gives me the correct time here in the UK without fail every time.
Mine seemed to know... I can only think you need to check settings.
Alexa seems to have voice recognition now... have just had to repeat 4 phrases, so she knows who is who in the house. Had anyone else done that? X
She has just told me that daylight saving was 27th Oct at Greenwich meantime.
1 am, sorry.
If it gives you the correct weather then it certainly knows where it is, check by using the Alexa app. Very odd otherwise.
Question Author
I've just asked Alexa what time zone "it" is using and it said "This device is using United Kingdom time"
Ask her when daylight saving time is.... but don't add "in the Uk". What is the response?
Question Author
She says "here's something I found on reference.com. In most regions of the united states, daylight saving time begins on the second Sunday in March".
Asking as a complete ignoramus of all things Alexa, how does it know where you live? If you have to tell it yourself and you said, say, Oxford, it may have thought you meant Oxford USA.
Thanks, gumboot x that is a very different response from mine... also in England. I would have a look at the app first and double check all settings.
There is some setting making her think you are in the US. I don't have that with mine.
