Now that I am watching my TV in my bedroom - I think I would enjoy YOUTUBE in the comfort of my bed watching the old stars and others. Can anybody do this for me. Or can I do it myself.

How easy it is depends on the TV - if it's "smart" then you can probably do it through an app - just press a button. If not, then you'll need a TV stick such as Roku / Now TV, Amazon Fire or Chromecast (there are others). All this assumes you've broadband with a wireless (wi-fi) router.

Have you got a smart phone?

this stick is new to me - only have sky TV - no smart TV or any other kind. so is there anything out there suitable for me. thanks - do have broadband with a wireless wifi router
Get a long HDMI cable from your computer to bedroom TV. put youtube on computer and watch it on TV. If your TV has an HDMI socket.
Question Author
thanks sparkly - where would I get a HDMI cable in a TV shop per se Currys
The long cable is all very well but you are unlikely to be able to control the PC from your bed.

If your TV has a USB socket for an input, opting to get one of the "sticks" is favourite. My woman bought a Now TV one, opted not to purchase any optional access, IIRC had to cancel auto enrolment before the trial period ended and they started charging. But she has used it very rarely since anyway. Just seen a few catch-ups. Was more of a 'seemed a good idea at the time' type of thing.

I have measured a comfortable distance from the computer to the next bedroom and it is more than 16 feet. Now that is more than 5m so would next get measurement which could probably be 6m. Am looking at ebay for this - would that be ok (I am not good with measurements)

old geezer I know what you are saying - I wouldnt want to upset anything before buying. I'll think it over and ask one of the techi nephews. In any event think the stick (if it worked) would be better than another long cable trailing over the rooms

^^^ and it could be a a notion I just take every now and again as I can get youtube on my monitor - thanks anyway
Why don't you buy a smart TV?
No need to buy a smart tv. Buy one of these for £40 and control it from your bed, easy peasy

what kinda money do you think I have Ummm - megabucks. I have two perfectly good 42" TVs in my home. One upstairs and downstairs.

HC - where's the YOUTUBE app
Question Author
I have found the youtube in the listing below in the Amazon listing. Now just paying £39.99 for it - is that it - will I be charged any more money.
With the Fire stick that is all you pay £39.99.
You actually only wanted to watch Youtube, but this device will give you a whole lot more. All the catchup tv you could handle and all for free.
If you want to subscribe to other services you can via Netflix, ITV+, Hayu films and box sets etc.. these will give much more than you could ever watch, but all will come with a monthly fee.
But the Fire stick will more or less turn you TV into a smart TV if it isn't already .. all you require is a spare HDMI port.
Question Author
thanks for that - I am going to invest in one for myself - however a wee question for you. My sister doesn't have wiki in her house - like no internet - nothing like that so would that "stick" work on her TV before I would buy her one.
the firestick uses wifi, take you phone into your bedroom turn on its wifi in settings, and see if you get a decent signal, if you do then get an amazon firestick.
sorry you said wiki, im assuming you meant wifi, if she has no internet
then firstick will not work, you need net access, even a smart tv needs net access to use youtube, on a smart tv you can have an ethernet port
for cable from router to tv, or a wifi dongle looks like a usb memory stick.

The "stick" plugs into a spare HDMI socket on the back or side of your TV but it needs power, either USB if the TV has a USB socket, or a mains plug, which is generally supplied.

thought that - sorry for wiki - meant to say wifi - no don't think that stick would work for her.
