How many people here have ever used the Samaritans? And have they ever been of any real help?

(Im not looking towards phoning them or in need of any help thanks, just a curious question)

I have never used them but I have a friend who is a Samaritan. I really admire her for what she does.

I'll admit I rang them once - it was a woman's problem and the older woman on the line was totally useless and unhelpful. I'm sure that is very unusual - I'm almost ashamed I rang in the first place now.

I have never had occasion to contact them but I am sure they have saved very many lives, all unpaid volunteers.

I manned the phones some years back, I like to think I made a difference to the lives of some folk heavily burdened at the time..

Ive used the Samaritans, over 30 yrs ago, ...certainly saved my life at the time!

I rang them once, when my mother was dying. I was crying when the phone was answered, but the person on the other end never said a word. After a few minutes I rang off and never tried again. I felt they couldn't be bothered.

Nothing much has changed, he's weak but able to enjoy the football, not eating or drinking, I'm tired but otherwise not too bad.

I manned the phones for 10 years and would like to think I had made a difference in some lives. When I was Chairperson it was lovely to receive calls from folk wanting to thank our volunteers for their help.
