Marmite is made entirely in the UK, so can someone please explain why Brexit is causing the price to rise ?
Perhaps some of the ingredients come from abroad Mikey.
well that's done it..we'll HAVE to stay now !!
Oh no. Where will I get my Marmite now?
Brexit and the resulting nervous investors opting to move out of sterling for a bit, gives an excellent excuse to raise prices across the board, regardless.

Jo................I bought a humongous jar last month, but I have now started rationing it !

Instead of about a quarter of inch thick splurge on my toast, its now just a smear !
Is this the same Tesco that has been accused of bullying suppliers into lowering their prices? They can dish it out but they can't take it.

I heard this spat between Tesco and Unilever described on the Today Program this morning, by some pointy-head economist as a "Mexican Stand-off"
Other side of the same coin, isn't it ?
Big supermarkets squeeze the suppliers to bring prices down, to sell at low prices and still make good profits; and any who don't comply get removed.
I use Tesco purely for convenience but I'm glad someone is standing up to them.

Yes, me too, ummmm. It's the only supermarket in my town, apart from Lidl which is a massive faff to shop in.

I think Tesco is awful. It used to be the cheapo supermarket, that you would only go to if you wanted a bottle of something late in the evening.

They've done well to get where they are now, but I don't like the way they treat their suppliers.

Jo.....Try Lidl-Aldi again.....we have new stores of both of these, and they are wonderful. I hardly ever go to the main supermarkets nowadays. There is no reason that I can think of they are a major faff.

Lidl also sells Marmite !
Mikey...I don't have a car and Northampton doesn't have a fish mongers (what I mainly eat) Tesco do the job.

I really dislike Lidl and Aldi stores.
Thanks, mikey. I will have to start going there again.
They were a bit of a faff because you have to remember to bring a pound coin for the trolley, you can't get everything you need in there, you can't exit through the entry door, you have to hurry up packing your things even though they keep you waiting because there's only one till open with a huge queue waiting...
Grrr;)
Having said that :) I do like some things in Lidl that you don't usually see anywhere else. Lumpfish roe. Lovely, I think I might pop in tomorrow.
I don't think Tesco have removed Unilever brands, but more like Unilever have stopped delivering to them.

I think this is an unusually visible sign of the constant battles that are taking place all of the time.

How will the UK survive without Pot Noodles?
Question Author
Hoppy....much more importantly, how will we manage with out Marmite ....EEEEEK !

Jo....Most supermarkets I know require a pound coin for the trolleys. These days, you can get most of the things you need in Lidl-Aldi, except for the things that Waitrose sell ! The queues can be a nuisance at times, but not dramatically more than the bigger, main-stream shops, and I never hurry my packing ! Its worth remembering that Lidl-Aldi were never meant to directly
compete with Tesco, ASDA, Sainsburys, etc. Instead they started off by being a very real alternative for places like Budgen, Kwik Save, Somerfield, the Co-op, etc. Lidl only started in Britain in 1994, and Aldiin 1990.

Perhaps those people that say that they can't stand Lidl-Aldi should give the newer stores another go. I have just come back from my new Aldi, and I would be pushed to criticise it very much at all. The fruit and veg looked lovely, and the hams, cheeses, sausages, etc are outstanding. So are things like yogurt, and fruit juices. The plain chocolate at Lidl is better than the Cadburys version in my opinion, and its only 30p !

I have learnt over the years, that they sell things that the regular shops don't especially close to Xmas. Don't even get me started on their red wines and beer !

Seriously worth checking out.
i'm fairly confident you can get marmite elsewhere....
Yes Mikey, you'll have to go sparingly with the Marmite. It reminds me of a joke. A person had won a years supply of Marmite. 1 jar......

Patsy.....when I and my brothers were growing in the 50's and 60's, we all agreed that Marmite was our favourite sandwich filling, beating Cheese and Branston by a whisker !
