I'm thinking of buying a new keyboard. Any recommendations, please? (if this doesn't breach the AB advertising rules). It will be used mostly for typing and simple computer games (not the sort that require a very fast or hard press on the keys). I need to be able to access French characters easily, eg via Alt0233, but on a standard Querty layout; wired not wireless, and preferably black. I looked at the online reviews for the Logitech K120, but they're a bit mixed. It doesn't have to be that cheap, but I don't want to spend a fortune.

I would recommend Logitech, I've had one for about five years now and its still going strong.
I bought a black TEXET keyboard from Wilkinson's a few years ago which was very good. Standard querty layout and quite cheap.
Pop in Wilkies and check them out.

Thank you, treetops and Wak, I'll have a look at both of them. Wak, I see we share a liking for Peacock butterflies!
Apparently so! Beautiful things, aren't they?

This isn't direct answer to your question, Tearinghair, but I thought that it might help you anyway, so here goes:

I have to type quite a few things in foreign languages (with homework for my Polish classes being top of the list). I've discovered the wonderful Typeit.org website where you simply type your document into a web page, clicking on the buttons for foreign characters where necessary, and then copy and paste the text into Word (or whatever). I showed it to my Polish teacher and she thinks that it's wonderful!

Here's the French version:

Thanks both of you. yes, still on Windows 7 and no plans to change. I think i need to go and look at a few keyboards to see which feels best.
That site is brilliant, Buenchico. I type quite quickly in French, but it does slow things down having to use four keystrokes for every accent. I'll try it.
I think you've summed it up best yourself, Tearinghair - look at a few and see how they feel to you.
Just out of interest, we've had a Logitech wireless for 15 years with no problems. My wife is a typist and gets on fine with it.
