Who do you fancy for it? Just got 7/2 for the Canadian bloke, Ouellet. My man is joint favourite with a Ghanaian, which suggests that the market thinks that the Conclave is a lot less conservative than a body largely chosen by the current Pope should be, at least first glance.

Is the Church against gambling? Presumably not, judging from the presence of priests in the ring at Galway and Cheltenham. At Galway, the local nuns turn over their garden for a funfair during Galway week too.

I got good odds too :0)

and I got odds on the Nuns being in trouble too. :0)
As you presume to know the answer to the gambling aspect of your post, why bother asking in the first place?

I can always be corrected Wharton. Lots of things I have presumed to be true have proved to be false on being checked by others. How about you?
My gambling days are over now that I think how much I spent each way on the findus beef burgers I had last month.
Why don't you just ascertain the facts first, then you wouldn't have to presume anything?
Some Catholics just won me 91 quid..........by losing to Juve,
Odds of 7/2 means, Freds fancy is by no means a racing cert Wharton.

Yes, gran, you shouldn't bet on horseflesh.

Yogi, the gardai in Galway raid private gambling dens, usually found in hotel suites. This always seems a bit bizarre. There must be dozens of these going, but they pick up one or two. But so far the nuns have not been implicated in that; they must keep at arms' length by having ' innocent' entertainments which they will claim is nothing to do with the Festival of gambling down the road, but who knows? You may collect.

Wharton,

Fred has done no wrong here imo and has answered your rather sarcastic question admirably, yet you insist on posting another such reply. If you have nothing to contribute to Fred's thread that is of interest, I would suggest you dont post anything. :0)
Shhhhhhhhhhhh, Yogi...it's chatterbank.

Wharton, why have I got to ascertain facts first ? I have got you, and the rest on here, to do that. What's the answer?
I'm shooooshed, MT lol :)

Perfectly serious question. Why do people gamble? The thrill of winning? The risk factor? Something for very little? The idea that the gambler knows more than everybody else? A bit of expensive fun?
I haven't the slightest interest in betting full stop, never mind on the next pope, but I wonder where "the market" (whatever that is) gets its info from.
Surely the reason the Ghanaian is one of the favourites is because he has a high profile, being black, and is therefore more heavily backed and therefore a lower price.
Or is that nonsense?
Our Wharton is standing, apparently.....

Where is Venator on this one?
"At Galway, the local nuns turn over their garden for a funfair during Galway week too. "
