we have what you would call nowadays an older type tv set, the ones with the big back. it is a small sony portable which has a video on the front of it. can you please tell me if this can still be used and tuned in? we have tried tuning it in and dont get anything. we are considering throwing it away but i just want to make sure first, thank you.

It'll get you the freeview channels if you attach a set-top box.

i recall it already had freeview built into it but we cant see anything. nothing on the tuning etc.
If the TV has a freeview tuner built in then it can pick up both analogue and digital signals.

You may be trying to tune analogue so it will pick up nothing

See if there is an option on the remote control or on the on-screen menus to "switch it" to tuning the digital channels.
you sure it got freeview built in it sounds a bit old for that
Have you tried retuning it after the digital upgrade?

If not, you won't get anything.
