the battery on my laptop has just about had it, and it keeps saying "consider replacing your battery". If i don't but keep it plugged in, will it keep going, or will the lappy just stop working?

Eventually the battery will lose the ability to hold a charge so unless you replace it or run off the mains your laptop will turn off...

Yes. I do (my laptop battery died a while ago and I haven't got round to replacing it). You can either remove the dead battery or leave it in and check it periodically for leakage...
