I was in the Royal Artillery in the 60's and 70's, on the guns. No ear defenders then. When I was persuaded by Vera to have a hearing test, I was amazed at how much I had lost. Some frequencies completely gone. The hearing test machine, you have headphones on and a button in your hand, probably the same there oz, press the button every time you hear a beep. Vera said I missed more than I got!
Once the hearing aids were ready, a couple of weeks later, I tried them, loved them instantly, The delightful young lady fitting them suggested I leave them out until I got home. 'Not a chance!' Says I. So I kept them in. We got in the car and I started it up. 'Crikey!, That's loud!' I said. Vera just smiled. I'd always thought it was quiet!
Vera used to call me her deaf old badger!
