Contract at work says I have to give 12 weeks notice. If my employer fills my position before the 12 weeks are up do they still have to pay me.

Yes, assuming they also need to give you 3 months' notice, or if you both agree to end the contract early

Yes, you give your notice and they fill your position and they can either let you go early and pay you up for the remaining period, or make you work to the end. But either way, you salary must be paid up until the end of the 12 weeks. Plus any holiday due.

Yes. Usually that crossover period is used for you to train the person who is taking over from you.
