I'm currently getting a download speed of 0.08 Mbps and an upload speed of 0.45 Mbps as confirmed by BT this afternoon. I'm 1.3km from the exhange , so I'm not expecting anything too quick but I was told when I took the contract that the line could support up 2.88Mbps.
Does this sound like there is a fault with the line, as I thought download speed was supposed to be faster than the upload speed?

Ok, I'll give that a go and report back later.
Thank for all your help!
I have been watching this thread with interest

for comparison my figures with O2 are

best down = 7, best up = 1; typical down = 6

I am approx 330m from exchange, all connection by wire and router is on an extension lead from socket.

Ping test gave no lost packets and average time of 23ms.
The reason I say it would be nice to run a check from the test socket is because if you report a line fault and BT send out an engineer one of the first things they'll do is pull the front off the master socket and check it from there... if that solves the problem then it's internal cabling in your house causing the problem and they'll charge you for the call out (about £160 if I recall correctly)

That is what I'm hoping to avoid.
I've taken the front off and plugged in directly so I'll see what happens in a couple of hours.
Well, you have an engineer coming next week, so there's hope!

I wonder how many people are sharing your line? Perhaps the engineer may switch you onto a better line?

I have Virgin cable, and the engineers are wonderful! And Virgin don't charge for visits or replacement equipment - I had some niggles with the Superhub when it first came out - they don't repair, they just put in a new one. I actually have a spare, which I'll give back next visit! I've been upgraded to 100mb, and all the speed tests show about 97-98 mb!

Sorry if you're not in a cable area.

If all else fails, Sky would be a better bet, and there are some good deals around at the moment.
i thought my Virgin flicker was a bit dodgy and phoned (free call) to ask what I could do, and they just couriered out the latest model free of charge....

Ok, I've run the test again with the wires connected as requested but I'm still getting the same results as before.
Download 0.07mbps
Upload 0.25mbps

Venator, I'm in a small village with no cable at all, unfortunatly.

Thanks again for everyones help and suggestions!
I recently had problems with my BT Broadband speed. I posted my moans here with the help I got from the mods, and following the receipt of two new BT Hub3, the first one didn't work properly, everything is all well now.
It would help if I posted the link:-
