Wrong partition in Windows 7

I installed a new 500 Gb hard drive on my laptop and set it up with Windows 7. I misunderstood the method of creating partitions and have finished up with a tiny C drive and a large disk O from which I cannot work. I have tried to extend the volume of C but it will not allow me to do this. I have looked at suggestions on Google but can't find a solution.
Any suggestions on how I resolve this?

Reformat the drive and start again.
I believe Winsow 7 has a facility for increasing the partition size (never done it myself)

Here are some instructions
