Files won`t delete

I have a memory card on which there are several files that won`t delete. I get a message - `the file name you specified is not valid or too long - specify a different file name`. I try altering the names but they won`t alter. The names appear to be encrypted, comprising garbled letters and odd symbols. I don`t know how they came to be on the card. They were left after I`d deleted much of the card`s content. Any ideas how I can get rid of them?

Are you trying to delete using a computer or a camera?
If they are the last few pictures and you want to clear the card why not format it.

All cameras give you the ability to format a card and this will clear everything out from the card.

It`s not used in a camera - they`re not photos. I use the memory card with a USB card reader to store miscellaneous files. However, I tried re formatting in a camera, and it worked after 3 attempts. Why a camera can clear it but not a PC, beats me. Thanks, anyway, folks.
Have you tried ‘Long Path Tool’ ?
it’s very useful in this type of case.
Thanks Anton- but did you know the question was from over 10 years ago?
