I have set up my work pc on gotomypc.com. Came home and tried it to find you can only go to your pc if the pc is switched on and running! What is the point of that. I phoned the help line and was told that most people leave their pc switched on all the time. Yeh right. Are there any products that can get you on to your pc if not switched on. Help or comments welcome.

it's shocking isn't it...

did you know you can only drive a car when it's switched on too, and can only watch a tv when it's turned on...

in fact the list of things that only work when switched on is nearly endless!

You can get an IP addressed power switch.

If you have a fixed IP address on your home ADSL connection and leave the modem on you can send a message to the switch to turn on the power to your computer.

The computer BIOS can be set to start automatically if there is power connected.

Probably I was being unrealistic, but I imagined it could get the information from your pc. Do people really leave their pcs switched overnight and over weekends at work? Thank you Beso.

I do, but I often have to check that external connections into our company network (be it mail, VPN's, FTP etc) are working OK so I use logmein on my home computer to check them from a external location.
