The laptop documentation should tell you.

There should also be a small switch somewhere on the laptop to turn wifi on and off.
You'd never tell from looking where my switch is - it's very disguised as an LED light.

Start - my computer - view system information (left hand panel) - hardware - device manager

Scroll down and click 'network adapters'

If you can see something like Intel (R)Pro / Wireless 220 Network Connection, click on that

the 6' dish on the back should give a clue .... failing that - ethel's suggestion is OK too

some lappys use a Fn+fsomething - no hardware switch as such

if it's less that three years old - the question is how do you switch it on -- 'cause it's 99% likely it is
and just to make it harder, my lappy I'm using at the moment has no switch, no light, no function key combo or anything to let you know it's wireless.

it is wireless though.
unnnn - that's made it harder
