I take it its not tomatoes you are growing?
I don't think that the UK had this sort of power back in the later 50s.....certainly not for 'weed' growing.
40 x 600W does indeed come to 24kW which, irrespective of the time factor, is far more than you can easily run from a domestic power supply.

The maximum load on a regular 13A socket is one of just 3kW. Each ring circuit in a house is usually rated to a total maximum of 30A, giving you about 7kW per ring.

So, if you utilised all of the upstairs and downstairs sockets in a house that just has two ring circuits, you've got about 14kW available for your use.

Also, with electricity costing around 15p per kWh, it's going to cost you about £55 per 16-hour day to power your supply.
what's the price of weed at the moment on the London or Leeds market, Chris?
Hahaha.........

100amps? Theoretically yes, but I wouldn't try it.
It would be a whole lot less with LEDs rather than sodium.
Builder -you can't grow 'tomatoes' under LED's :-)
Most people who need so much power for indoor horticulture seem to connect either to next door's electricity or the nearest lamppost.
As hydroponics suppliers sell LED grow lights one imagines you can grow anything under them https://www.growell.co.uk/grow-lights/led-grow-lights.html
Certain types of plants need different light spectrums for different stages of growth. Bog standard LED's from DIY sources only omit bluish light for vigorous leaf growth, great if you are growing lettuce or micro herbs. Some 'Plants' need a reddish light to aid bud formation and you can buy full spectrum LED's but they cost a lot of money. Ok if you are growing 'Tomatoes' on a big scale but hardly worth it if you only have a coule of 'Tomato' plants for your own consumption.
Auntie. I wasn't talking about bog-standard LEDS. ;o)))
