Qualifying was very close - great to see Fernando Alonso at the sharp end in the Aston Martin.

Lights out and ... away we go at 3pm Ireland Time.

Well my heart sank after qualifying, are we in for another boring year of Verstappen?

It can't be more boring than all those years with Hamilton, Prudie. Even OH (a true petrolhead) just ab out gave up on it and missed bothering with quite a few races.

I do hope not, Prudie - the RBs turned the wick up for qualifying, but shredded their tyres - interesting to see how they go with a full load of fuel.

It will be interesting to see if Red Bull continue to dominate. I can't see Merc or Ferr putting up with that (but they might have to LOL). And as you said, Aston M look promising.

I'm suprised the Mercs are so far behind .

You would have thought with their resources and experience they would have come up with a competitive car for this year after the dud they had last season .

I just can't take to Verstappen .
If he starts dominating the races , I shan't bother watching .

I've never liked Hamilton either. I just find a lot of them boring now, not a patch on Schumacher, Hakkinen days :-(

Same can be said of all those years with Schumacher and Vettel .
Thing is Ferari , RB and Mercedes always dominate , each for long periods .

However I support British drivers and Hamilton is British

Leclerc brakes down.

Perez and Sainz Jr take each other out.

Russell and Alonzo spend the afternoon swapping positions until Hamilton's nose stud works loose, flies out of cockpit, is sucked in to Stroll's air intake, causing his engine to overheat. The resulting smog covers the whole track and the race is red flagged.

Looks like Alonso has a good car (at last) and the Ferraris are there or thereabouts too - all very promising for some good racing ...

Pleased for Alonso getting on the podium, great drive. Looks like it's going to be the MV show again though.
