I grew up with this man in the 70s!
it seemed saturday wasnt a saturday without him on the telly in the afternoon. Obviously not so popular as John Motson.
I posted it in the same RIP as 'Motty', Piggy. Though as no-one appears to have noticed, perhaps your thread is warranted.
R I P Dickie Davis.
Dickie Davies was a legend.
I always wanted to giggle when I seen him. Probably because of Benny Hill's World of Sport.. :-) RIP Dickie.

That was it patsy, Benny hill's ' world of sport' pmsl!!!
:-))
I'm sure Dickie would laugh too!
I remember he was interviewed about the start of his tv career and he recounted when he was given a script to read to camera, which he did most professionally. He then broke into that lovely smile and explained to camera that the phrase "... boos from the crowd..." had been misspelt as "booze" adding with a chuckle that it may have been done deliberately to test him :) He got the job and the rest is history. RIP Dickie.
