It's only the the Union Jack when it's flying from the Jack staff of a Royal Navy ship, (that's where the Jack bit comes from) at any other time and place it is the Union Flag. The broad white diagonal should be at the top on the side nearest the flag pole.

Oh stop it. He was handed a flag.
This is quite common amongst the phoney patriots.

Lack of National Pride seems to be the problem,
along with a lack of education.
Lots of people don't but looking at the picture I would suggest someone just put it in his hand to take the picture......Honestly tho' is it really that important in the great scheme of things?

As an Ex Serviceman it annoys the hell out of me to see the Union Flag disrespected.
Ah, you served. Why didn't you mention it before?
Question Author

Sorry Doug, I should have done, shouldn't I?
;o)
I somehow doubt that Michael made the flag, contact the manufacturers.

I never for one moment suggested he had made it Mamya, and if you can let me know who manufactured it that would help.
Can't narrow it down from the image but there are many in Guangdong.
My parents also served in WW2. It didn't stop my dad chuckling at an upside down flag from any nation. I don't stand for the national anthem either!
Doubt if many young people would know which way up this flag should be displayed - even an oldie like me has no idea what's wrong with it.
The tricky bit is deciding which nation has been disrespected the most, maggie
Isn't an upside down Union Jack supposed to be a distress signal? Mind you, he might be in distress when the UK entry finishes up as it usually does. Good luck to him anyway.
occurs frequently
I blame the lack of cubby-wubbies and brownies

there is an upside down union flag above the left hand shoulder of Beeb presenters most days when they are outside the House of Commons
blaarting about the usual

hey didja see Jacob RM a moment ago on teevee
with a "ditch brexit remain!" blue hatted supporter?
o
just looked
the plazzy ones are frequently like that
I think it is a production quality error
Whoever made those flags wasn't one of my Brownies...I taught them about your flag.....is it an important thing to do? I don't know but I must admit I don't like to see your flag upside down.
One of the teacher's at my last school hung a huge Union Flag upside down in his classroom.....I thought it was because OFSTED inspectors were arriving that day and gave him the benefit of the doubt.... :-)
The manufacturer of the flag is completely irrelevant as Baldric's point, I believe, is that the person holding the flag does not, it would seem, know the correct way in which it should be displayed. If he had known, he could simply have held it with the stick facing up.
I know it's an awkward flag to get the right way up - and obviously many couldn't give a hoot - however I doubt there's another nation in the world who wouldn't get seriously affronted if there flag was flown upside-down (but they are allowed to be patriotic).
What if he'd fallen on the stick and had his eye out, Sanmac.......so many things have your eye out.....so he may have been putting safety before correct Union Flag flying.....
Manufactured correctly there would be no risk to the eye by having to hold the flag upside down to have it the right way up.... ;-)
