I can understand that albs. I love being on the water, or by it. The Gloucester and Sharpness canal is really a diversion of the River Severn, the bit of the river it bypasses is the most dangerous bit of it. Sandbanks can shift a fair distance between tides. So the water in the canal comes in through the river lock in Gloucester docks and goes out back to the river through the sea lock in Sharpness docks. It's the only ship access to Gloucester.
