England in the mire - self destructing in a horribly familiar variety of innovative ways.

All down to Buttler and Root now - but not holding my breath :(
normal England performance against a supposedly weaker team quite pathetic really
Question Author
I've enjoyed watching Ireland more than England - they have confidence and are willing to have a go ...
Question Author
Oh dearie me ... Root is uprooted :(
Good.
can't believe Ireland, who have beaten two full test-playing countries, will be out while England look like going through if they pull this one off.
Question Author
Buttler gone ..... 38 needed off 25 balls .... squeaky bum time
Butler gone!

238 /7 still need 39 off 25 balls
Sorry Dave.

You weren't there when I started typing.
England lose by 15 runs

.... good night vienna
Dear me! Well I suppose it saves further humiliation later on.
Disgraceful. Sack the lot of them.
How many defeats will it take before the ECB realises that the current approach is just not working? One would hope that this is a big hint.

I'd almost like to see Afghanistan beat us too.
Question Author
I think The AB Wanderers XI could stuff them at the moment ...
The truth is out: England are not good enough. They actually had a go and were still found wanting
I hope Ireland can do it but I am not holding my breath We were extraordinarily lucky to beat Zimbabwe as their batsman was plainly not out when Mooney caught him touching the boundary. And somehow the replay either didn't see it or worse appeared not to bother rechecking. If I'd been supporting Zimbabwe I would have been furious
I wonder if Alistair Cook slept in his wife's arms whilst this was going on. MOores out, KP back!
I suppose it saves further humiliation later on

still one banana skin to come...
This competition is not cricket, it is "slog it and run" as is all limited over cricket up to and including the peak of that nonsense, the 20/20 farce.

Having said that England would fare no better if it were proper cricket.

Yes..........maybe.

Test matches ..5 days.....County cricket ..3 days.
Cricket was dying around 20 years ago......money wasn't coming into the game and it was in danger of becoming an "elite sport" with little public interest..........like hockey or basketball perhaps.

Many people who enjoyed cricket but yearned for a result on the day were leaving the game...TV was offering money for an entertaining sport for the "masses."

What was to be done?

I was brought up with the "old fashioned" values of county and Test cricket, but limited overs have been a life saver for the game.
