Been smoking only a year and a half!
20 a day...now 10!
Help me quit, i hate it but im hooked!

Just out of interest, why did you start in the first place?
You have to be in the right frame of mind to quit, I quit on patches and was surprised at how much easier it was than I'd thought! Just make sure you don't get them wet (or change them right away if you do) and I bought some plasters and surgical tape to keep them on as they don't always stick very well.

I did a diary for the first few days to keep me occupied, noting when I'd have usually have had one and seeing them add up and allocating a price to each cig and noting how much money i'd saved and how much better i started feeling and the positive comments I got from people.

I also associated the thought of smoking with feeling physically sick which helped, bought some lovely smellies and a nice flavoured lip balm, some teeth stain remover and keep some toothpaste with you to keep your breath fresh. Also keep a bottle of water handy you can sip and some chewing gum and chewy breath mints. Also keep something handy to fiddle with in your hands, even a pen you can fiddle with and put in your mouth if necessary.

I made myself see the habit for what it was, dirty, disgusting, smelly etc... decided my life would not be rules by little cancer causing sticks.

Don't let a bit of failure put you off but never never buy some (my fatal mistake, wanted just one and bought a pack of 10 - HUGE mistake!).
Keep yourself occupied, get non smoking supportive friends to come with you on lunch breaks etc... do things you wouldn't have done when smoking before eg going in non-smoking coffee bars. Make an effort to wash all your clothes, bedding, anyting that might be smoky, have a big spring clean, maybe even treat yourself to some nice new bedding and such as a treat for the money you're saved, even set incentives such as once I've saved x amount I will treat myself to y. Short term goals are better at first as more achievable.

The Alan Carr books and such are meant to be very good too. You can get it in WH Smiths and major bookshops usually in the mind, body health etc.. section.

I started because the guy i was living with smoked! I was only having 2 a day then it got outta control!!
Tesco's are doing 2 packs of Nicquitine stuff for �20 at the moment, the lozenges and the gum.
Might be useful?
Good luck, i've not had one since NYE and think I could manage a night out drinking without a sneaky one now!

I want to quit coz it stinks, my friends dont smoke, it aint good for my health and i honestly hate doing it!!
I have 6 left then thats it......
sounds like you're going to do it.
If you can't see any good reason to remain a smoker then all you have to get over is the physical addiction - not easy, but at least you've not been smoking long.

by Alan Carr.....I know a few that have given up after reading that.

Don't bother with the nicotene replacements.....you will still be addicted while using them.....cold turkey is the way

I smoke and I love it. I feel that I am doing great things for the Health service by smoking. I stay relatively fit by getting lots of exercise and I reckon I will outlive a lot of the fatties in the world. What you need to do is meet more people that smoke ad become friends with them, either that or encourage all your friends to take it up. Remember, you're never too old to start. How good would it be if every one smoked? Think about it, the NHS would be in a fantastic position financially, people would loose weight, employers would be more sympathetic to smokers needs, ie awarding more breaks and being a bit more considerate over issues surrounding time off and think of the banter we could all enjoy when we're out smoking, not just among the few cliques that we all have in the work place.....

Lets turn GB into a smoking utopia.....

Good luck Tilly..........................I decided to stop 3 weeks ago and have good days and not such good days. On Monday I got all stressed out at work, that little nicotine demon persuaded me that I really needed a smoke, so I went and bought a packet of 10. Took four puffs, which tasted really bad and then thought why the hell did I bother!! Then of course I was faced with the dilema what do I do with the other 9 I had left. If I left them in my bag they would be a constant temptation, so there was nothing for it but to flush them down the loo!!
Talk about chucking money down the drain, still, better than smoking them. Hopefully another little lesson learnt on my quest to give up the deadly weed!!!
