Which is good but I am not 100% sure if job will be right for me and I will have to pull a sickie as only arranged time for interview today and this Friday is the only available slot left. I can't ask boss for the day off as colleague has appt so I will have to be in to cover phones and its too short notice so it is going to have to be a sickie. Am I doing the right thing?

just have a good answer for when the interviewer asks you "where does your boss think you are today"

Ok perhaps 'I've taken a day off as holiday' or they might think that was rude of me to ask employer at short notice or that an hr interview is not a good excuse to take a whole day off
is it in the morning? Could always call work and tell them you will update them at lunchtime on how your feeling then go in for the afternoon.

I would go to the interview even it doesn't turn out to be right for you, otherwise you might kick yourself later!
definitely go to the interview anyway. it's an opportunity for you to ask questions too (and they will ask you if you have any questions).

I went to an interview recently and realised as he was telling me about the company and the role that it wasn't what I had originally thought.

with regards to the short notice to your current employer, say you need time off to go to the doctors.

anyway, good luck for the interview, i know you're miserable where you are!

It's at 2 in the afternoon. I'm just gonna pull a sickie as bad as that might sound but I see it as my only option.
I've got an interview next Friday at 2: 00pm and no holidays left. I was planning on getting crippling period pains (or something that a male boss won't query too much) so I could go in for the morning and then go home 'sick' at lunchtime :-)
deceipt and lies will get you no where and I am sure this will be reflected in the outcome of both your interviews.
What would you do in this situation then 999?
Interviews are generally held during the working day and interviewees have no option but to take the time off from their jobs. If they have no holiday entitlement left, what on earth should they do? It is not a good idea to tell an existing employer that you are looking elsewhere and not a good idea either. So you are left with pretending to have an appointment or take a day of sickness. It is not something you do lightly and makes the majority of people feel guilty.

I am interested to see if 999 replies as to what he/she would do.

I think 999 may be a trouble maker as I have just seen a reply in the Law section and it is not very nice. I don't mind people having differing opinions, but you can tell when they are being purposely provocative.

I would tell the boss that I have some personal issues and would like to take the day off as annual leave.

jno 'trolling' indeed. I just remember when my grandma died and people were flocking to the house ransacking it to see what they can get out of it. This is a very delicate subject to me and if they 'cant afford to wait' then this implies that they have been relying on it. Why is that horrible thing to say?
999 you've lost me. Sorry about your nan an all but to come back to angel's dilemma, the squeaky clean solution is to tell your boss you need to take a day out without pay, for personal reasons. Tell him nowt else. That way you are not defrauding anybody, or sullying your karma, which means good karma will accompany your actions. And you are obeying the age old premiss of 'never explain, never apologise'. Plus, your boss can always man the phones for a few hours on a friday, I'm sure.
flippin 'eck....have you no morals. Pulling a sickie is theft! You are stealing from the person who trusted you enuf to offer you a job.

It would be better if you postponed the interview explaining there was an emergency at your present job; any employer would be impressed with your loyalty & responsibility.
I vote pull the sickie. it is just an unfortunate sistuation that you cant take it as holiday. if the interviewer asks where you are, just say you have taken it as annual leave. this is the only really acceptable answer.

Rather than take the whole day off as a sickie I'm going to just ask for the afternoon off and say that I have my speeding workshop to go to (as they know I have to attend one of these however it isn't really on Friday of course) but then I can be there for colleagues appt and Fridays are quiet so I'm sure they can cope just for the afternoon without me. Then when I have my real speeding workshop I will hopefully have more notice and be able to take a day off holiday for that. Ahh its never simple is it! I am applying for another job as well so this might not be the only interview I have to have time off for.

Feel really guilty - just told them I have my speed choice workshop on fri so I can go for interview - feel really guilty
