It's more attractive to women? (Apparently)
Big Monty Python fan, isn't he?

Actually Mani, despite the question being written in a flippant way, there is a serious side to it.
If god wants us to know him, then presumably he would pull out all the stops, so to speak.
An anology would be, if my son wants something and I think that it would be bad for him so I put a stop to it. Now if I were to put a stop to it but didn't explain why (merely said no and walked off) then how is he going to react? He would be upset and hurt at my behaviour and not understand the 'why'.
Now if he asked for something and I said no...and explained why...then he is going to understand that I care for him. He wouldn't have to have 'faith' in my refusal to grant him something, he would understand my concern for him.
When I hear people say that god moves in mysterious ways
(during natural disasters for instance) it doesnt do anything for me except to believe that if this god really exist, then he really doesnt give a fig.
Surely, if this god exists then he would want us to KNOW why he does what he does, in order for us to get to know him?
Must admit, Wiz, I've often wondered the same myself. If he really wanted us to know what he was all about, then why not tell us in specific terms rather than have us rely on a book, which we know was written by men, and to be left to choose the bits that seem to fit what we believe to be his purpose. Wouldn't it be so much easier if he made his intentions clear? Doesn't seem to be the most sensible way somehow, does it? Just why does he feel he has to move in mysterious ways? It's simply a mystery. Wish he'd tell it like it is.
Isn't it all about faith and the type of glasses you view human existence and purpose. You believe so you don't have to have proof or explanations that dot i's and cross t's. For those who have made that jump, believe they have been caught by whatever deity they believe in.
The rest stand by the edge of cliff, water, cavern etc going well actually I don't believe in all this baloney and have rational explanations for why I am not going in/down there.
Tescos won't give you details of their inner operations. The government won't. Why would God?
Gee wiz it's you (again) to quote Sir Cliff !

Here's another analogy:-

If you needed a doctor then you would have to find him and communicate to get the answers, a doctor just doesn't show up at everybody's house uninvited.

jno...Tesco's may give me club card points but they dont claim to love my soul and want to save it from eternal damnation

Dassie...my doctor doesnt 'move in mysterious ways, his wonders to perform'....he simply writes a prescription for my monthly supply of viagra and away I go...no mystery

hey naomi...missed your post there for a while.
mani seems to think that im being mocking with my question, what do you think?
Am I mocking because I ask why?
Morning Wiz, no I don't think you're mocking. Why shouldn't you ask why? It's a question I've often asked. Likewise, I never understood why god didn't ensure we had some concrete evidence - or at least some detailed, reliable, documented information, about Christ and the reality of the resurrection. A lot of problems would have been solved if he'd done that. We would all believe the story, all other religions would be history, we would be joining forces to fight the evil influence of Satan, we would be sure of realising the promise of a wonderful afterlife in heaven, and the world would be at peace. If god really has this enormous message for us, since we're still arguing over it, his methods in relaying it don't seem to be terribly sensible to me. As a mere human being, I can't help wondering why an all powerful god didn't come up with a better idea.
It's a question that has been asked before and a great many people have concluded that a sane and loving God couldn't possibly operate in such mysterious ways.

Hence why Gnosticism needed to be crushed by the Medieval church (of course, they weren't proper Christians, blah blah blah, no true Scotsman etc etc).
This line trotted out by believers when horrible stuff happens and people quite rightly ask why the hell our benevolant creator just stood by and did nothing.
They can neatly side-step answering the question by saying we wouldn't understand it when they don't either.
It's a brilliant get out that doesn't actually mean anything, I just wish folks like Mani could see that.

It's funny how all relgious questions are ultimately answered with smoke and mirrors. But then that's why it's called faith and not fact.

I hear Santa moves in mysterious ways as well. It must be true!! Prove to me that it's not.
