After 55 years on this earth I prefer fact.
As much as it pains me, as much as it upsets me, I prefer facts over faith.
A few weeks ago I was nearly suicidal. Still prefer facts to 'faith'. If I had ended my life then, I would have been dead, end off, no atheist in foxhole here.
Just dont understand this religious preoccupation with living forever....
I honesty just dont get it?
What the hell are you going to to FOREVER?
It would be like watching a game of football that went on forever...there wouldnt be a point,
Fact or fiction, humm. I'm okay with either so long as I'm able to distinguish one from the other and am not bothered by those who either can't or won't.
// religious preoccupation with living forever....//
there is this - "body dies bit " in all religions - and funerals and graveyards - - have you noticed?
the answer may be 'no' - or no of course not that is why I post on AB
Perhaps my OP should have been titled Do You prefer Fact or Faith?
Its a fact that we die. Its a faith that we continue to exist (in whatever state)
No one denies the former. No one can prove the latter.
Well I have been severely depressed at times in my life. Never quite reached the point of seriously thinking of suicide but have been in some low places.
I try now to look at the much bigger picture. God offers everybody the chance of eternal life. That is endless fellowship with Him, endless peace and joy.
Even in the most abject miserable a person surely experiences some moments of bliss and joy. Some experiences they wish will last forever.
I truly hope Nailit that you get the support you need. Don't be afraid to ask for help.
I dont apologise one bit for my faith and I won't back down one bit, I simply don't agree with your assessment of eternal life.
For me there is always has to be hope, and I will cling to my hope
//I try now to look at the much bigger picture. God offers everybody the chance of eternal life. That is endless fellowship with Him, endless peace and joy//
And you know this how exactly?
Krishna followers have told me the exact same thing.
Eternal life, to me, would be meaningless!
What gives life ANY purpose is the fact that its limited, and therefore precious.
(All be it painfull at times)
Eternal life doing what exactly? Just existing?
Telling God how good and gracious he is?
Singing hymns?
And then what?
More singing hymns???
Really?
//If humans have eternal life, what's the point of reproducing?//
If humans are eternal, then why do we have to die so that we continue to live???
Non of it makes any sense!
Unless we are just another species on earth, for a short spell,
All stick and no carrot. The afterlife is bland (telling god how great he is for ETERNITY)). Therefore Be warned, hell awaits and a suffering for eternity of flame and agony for the unbeliever's
Nice God you got there. Can't wait to worship it.
(Not)
Eh???
//None want to live forever//
The deluded do.
//but a suicide causes harm to the family, friends & a stigma to ones future progeny//
What about the person who commits suicide? is he (or she) to be forgotten and written off? What of THEIR pain?
