For the first time in 20+ years I’ve just been to the pub, in the night time, without children and it cost £17 for two rounds!!! How can anyone afford a whole night out (we could only have the table for an hour)?

So, assuming that there were two of you, that's an average of £4.25 per drink. That's not wildly expensive these days.

A pint of beer or lager might typically cost between about £3.50 and £4.20, or up to £4.80 for some premium lagers, although there are big variations across different regions and different pub chains.

Spirits with mixers often cost much the same, although cocktails can cost a lot more.

Wine tends to start at around £4.50 per glass but with better quality wines costing around £6.
I've just checked on the prices in one of my favourite London pubs. (Cask, in Pimlico).

Their draught beer prices range from £5.90 to £18.00 per pint.

Their bottled beers start at £4.80 and go up to £105.00. (No, that's not a misprint!)

Their wines cost between £5.80 and £6.85 per 175ml glass.

A single 25ml measure of spirits costs between £4.25 and £18.70.
central Lundy prices
BUT
a few years ago - the round in the group I was out with ( ages 70,65, 17,17,18,19) tw bottles of prosecco at £20 per bott

and you know students were doing it
My local has just reopened today and has raised its prices by 10p .... a price of Carling now costs £3.20 a pint (NW England).

Just to go off at a slight tangent, I remember being in Paris in 1989/1990 ish. We were on a lads weekend away and decided to visit a nightclub on the Champs-Élysées. We paid the equivalent of £12 to get into a nightclub (it was francs back then) and were told that our first drink (a half pint) was free. One of my mates supped his quite quickly and made the mistake of ordering another half without asking the price .........
......... £6 for half a lager over 30 years ago !!!!
£13.20 for 15 cans, more or less pints, suggests that I'll be propping up the beer aisle of Morrisons of a weekend.

As for £18.00/pint, you can get a bottle of spirits for less than that and not be regarded as an imbecile by any normal folk in the vicinity.
I cannot believe the amount of money I've saved since I forsook pubs and clubs and started drinking at home.
Surely it depends how many people are in each round and what drinks you're buying ?
I think that Sherrardk shouldn't be complaining too much anyway.

After all, she managed to persuade the Prime Minister to lift the Covid restrictions just because it's her birthday ;-)

I’m not complaining (I didn’t pay), just wondered how people can afford a social life :)
Pubs are passé for a lot of folk. Since the smoking ban my wife and friends use them for coffee or something to eat.
Considering Asda do three crates pf lager or cider for £21, it does seem crazily excessive.
Don't blame the pubs though. There's the minimum wage to pay the staff, the drink and the taxes on the alcohol, replacement glasses, business rates, overheads, and now PPE and hand sanitiser. I think its a fair price all things considered.

I was just shocked as I’ve not been to one for so long. Totally agree about paying extra, given the hammering they’ve had.
my local is 5.50 average price for a pint, so somewhat more than most seem to pay. the other pubs locally are pretty much the same, one is a bit more expensive i think, though i haven't been in it for some time
wine in the same local is 7 quid a glass, its not even cheaper to buy a bottle.
go to Wetherspoons!
too far away to go to Wetherspoons, the nearest is at least half an hours walk away. My local is just around the corner.
my mate wanted to meet up for a drink last night, first we would have had since the last easing of lockdown, but it was much too cold to sit out - i am hoping the weather takes a better turn at the weekend when we might meet up for a drink.
That's cheap!!
whats cheap sharon
