Today we see pictures and signs of rainbows on fences, in windows and painted on walls in honour of the NHS.
Only a few years ago it was the sign of the LGBT community.
The first rainbow is mentioned in the Book of Genesis Chapter 9 v 8 - 16.
So what actually is this symbol?

No Mamya, I am not.
Quite the polar opposite.
Consider it in more depth. Please.
Hope.
I very much doubt anybody campaigned for the rainbow symbol which was probably decided upon by a committee of civil servants, making it an imposition on what they think we will respond to.
But why the corporate symbolism?
It is, as I assert, virtue signalling, and does not reflect my deep respect and appreciation of the human family that makes up our NHS.
It is a christian symbol and signifies a promise from God that he will not kill us with a great big bloody flood.

Seems this time he is going to wipe out millions with a killer bug because we have been naughty.
Indeed that maybe the case.
''When we get the vaccine,'' words spoken in almost desperate hope, and then the variants followed possibly by a new strain or completely new disease to devastate the global population.
Best just sit back and observe.
But we are not all going to drown.
Which is a relief.
I always think of a 'Rainbow' as a multicoloured artist in part of London.
"It is, as I assert, virtue signalling, and does not reflect my deep respect and appreciation of the human family that makes up our NHS."
Theland; that sounds like a bit of virtue signalling to me.
Atheist, translate how you like, but after quite a few recent hospital stays I can see how's understaffed they are and how well they try their best to cope. And somehow they do.
So, I affirm my former statement.
(There! How does that sound?)
I shan't look into it in more depth as you put it, you for one moment should try to see the simplicity and hope in a bright and colourful symbol.

(link almost a year old but the sentiment remains)
Theland, I think it sounds as though you use 'virtue signalling' as a lazy put-down to those you disagree with, but you don't see the mote in your own eye.
My mote which is what exactly?
Theland; look within and see the wisdom of the unwritten and yet that which lives within thy soul. I'm accusing you of being a 'virtue signaller'. Apparently bragging about your love for the NHS.
OK. Fair enough. But read back over the posts. I've been defending myself.
Of course I am well used to being sniped at from the sidelines.
I may be part of the great unwsashed but I'm not really that typical of it.
I don't like conforming to the whims of committees, who mist consider us thick, and happy to be thrown a bone, or in this case a ''trendy'' new symbol.
Maybe they think it will help us to, ''come together.''
So much BS.
Theland, I don't think I snipe at you from the sidelines, I simply respond to your posts openly. I also don't think that there is some committee who decide that the rainbow shoud be designated as a symbol; sometimes these things just appear. I sometimes wonder if you think that it's you against them. I know that you realise that you and I don't agree about some things, but I do try to talk to you with a bit of respect.
Atheist, your virtue signalling comment was so wrong.
I appreciate your respect, and reciprocate.
Yes, your posts are a!ways civil.
The rainbow for me is the symbol of God's promise not to flood the earth again. Before the Flood there was actually no rain, so it was tolerable even to live in Ireland then
//Before the Flood there was actually no rain//

Speculation.
Question Author
Five leaves - Very true. God brought the flood because mankind had become so violent and immoral that in order to safe the righteous (Noah and his family) he removed the wicked which included rebellious angels. The rainbow was a sign that he would never destroy mankind again with a flood. It was therefore a symbol of peace.
Still keeps sending plagues though?
