Believers or non believers, why do we do it?
Asked myself this question today. The preachers will preach, the unbelievers will still be unbelievers, nothing new under the sun and all that.
So...what do you gain by posting in R&S?

I don’t. Ask yourself the question, you post on a regular basis .
like a lot of posts in the News section, it gives them a chance to announce their opinions, which, as you say, seldom change on any subject.
Discussion. Exchange of points of view.
Bores me silly and I wonder why you enjoy the 'same old ,same old chase me round the daffodils' nonsense You reap what you sow as they say.
zip....zero...nada nowt
R&S questioners seem to fall, (broadly) into 2 categories:

Those that welcome open discussion and others viewpoints (without necessarily agreeing)

And...

Those that like to be contentious and trade insults

But you bothered posting??
I don't think I have ever post a question in R&S (happy to be proved wrong) - I do try and answer or contribute to some but often the anger displayed puts me off.

I am nowhere near as widely read as some on the subject and probably too easy going as well.
Some might say you're stuck in a rut.
Its like those debates you get on TV programmes like "The Big Questions". Everybody seems to leave the debate with exactly the same views they had before, having changed their mind not one jot.
Others opinions can provoke me into saying, '' Wow! I never thought of that!''
You asked. I answered. I can't be bothered chasing the same old contributors with the same old arguments. One in particular cannot state there case in a few words but as usual dominates reams of page with waffle. Every one seems to have their opinions but offer them invariably in such a lofty superior way. The responses are so repetitive.
That is why I dont bother on a sub -section of AB That Is Contentious.
Again. You asked. I answered. Your question was why bother posting. Not why bother look in and read the nonsense spouted by most of the culprits.
My religious beliefs are for me to know and I don't care who is or isn't an atheist, hypocrite,Hindu, Tutu or thinks they are God!
typo: ' their case'

I think I have it now. This is an on-line form of Panto.
Popular in your parts I gather.
