I believe all information originates in a mind.
If you disagree with this, any examples?

He got his words from his parents, which is why he spoke English not Chinese. His contribution is the creation of tales not information. The tales may still pass information if based on experience.
Are you not aware of the theory that given enough time, an infinite number of monkeys using typewriters, could produce Shakespear's complete works?
I assume Shakespeare went to school, learned to read and write and wrote his stuff based on his imagination etc.

Sparkly - Thank you for the insult. Did it originate in your mind or was it put there by an outside agency?
// data which is already out there and contains the information //

There is no data or information out there. There is only things.

We create data and information by observing the things and thinking about them. When we observe that there are two things, and that one is red and the other is blue, then we have created data and information. We can then pass that data on to other people so they don't have to observe the things or think about them for themselves.

We didn't create the things - they were there waiting to be observed. We created the data.
No insult. I have read your posts, analysed them ( using my brain) and come to the inevitable conclusion you are talking garbage.

So he originated the information that you refer to as 'the complete works of Shakespeare' in his mind then. It wasn't floating around for him to absorb.

Thanks Ludwig - that's my point.

"Daddy, tell me a story."

"Once upon a time . . . . . . . ."

"Daddy what are you waiting for?"

"I'm waiting for a data input from an outside agency."
This must rank among the most bizarre threads ever to surface here. What an absolute load of twaddle.
Basing stuff on imagination is not information creation. It's finding a novel way to arrange and pass on information gained during a lifetime.

If it didn't exist before and you've made it up, then you've created it.
I'm not quite sure which part of that is so confusing.

The OP refers to "information" & "mind" which is exactly what some of us are talking about. If its all too much for you, I suggest you kindly leave the stage.
The OP refers to ‘a’ mind. He obviously meant God in his ceaseless baseless ramblings where he tries to debunk scientific evidence.
^exactly. You’ve got the wrong end of the stick, Khandro. As I said, twaddle.
Question Author
Twaddle? Did that originate in your mind?
No, Theland, it originated in your mind.
No part of it is confusing to me ludwig, but I think you may be confusing creating literature with information. Nothing in the stories is new information, it's simply old knowledge arranged into something interesting. It's all down to definitions. It's not simply about new arrangements of old language.

Naomi - don't be silly or proud.
If you have nothing constructive to add, make the tea.
