How can anybody wanting to worship God or wanting to search for Him ever step into a Roman Catholic Church given their recent revelations about criminal and pervasive sexual abuse with both adults and children?

Where is their integrity?

Family responsibility, Tambo! The families who left their girls to the mercy of the warped nuns in places like the Magdalene and Smyllum Asylums? The families who didn't protect their children from the demon priests who abused them? The families who punished their children for speaking out against a priest?

Because of my experiences I took my responsibilities as a mother seriously. I made sure that both my son and daughter knew never to trust or to be alone with a priest or nun.

You'd do well to listen to Stephen Fry and take in what he says about Catholicism. He is kinder than I would be......but I'm glad my children agree with him and not the Catholics with whom they have to live. The people who worship in the church that tells Mr Fry that he is the morally evil one.

I began to question the beliefs of my family in my late teens. The older I get the more I detest Catholicism and those using it to bully, abuse, and rob their fellow man.
//Would you leave your son to be mentored by Stephen Fry?//
I most certainly would. Why wouldn't you?
the only time I have disowned a church was when the Irish priest asked for donations to support the IRA years ago. Some priests act like politicians; theyre only men after all.
You disapproved of something, Tambo and took action. Then you surely understand my feelings towards the Catholic Church?

You'd perhaps be surprised by how much support priests gave to the IRA...and not just by collecting money.
My aunty lived in a little close and there were some RC nuns living in a bungalow a few doors down. My family were never RC or any other religion really. When my aunt became ill from breast cancer, the nuns were so nice to her and she found so much comfort from their kindness. You can't tar everyone with the same brush.
gness I have an uncle who was a bishop (died last year). He visited Ireland regularly coz the church named him after St Patrick. He worked with Mt Theresa, a charity I still support.
Well we have something in common, Tambo........a dead uncle who was a bishop.... :-)

Not in common though is supporting Mother Teresa....she was a nasty lady.x
You have to visit India to have an informed opinion of Mt Theresa homes.
Her Saintly persona doesn't really stand up to scrutiny though Tambo, she had virtually no trained medical staff in her 'Houses for the dying' which actually meant that a lot of sick but curable people actually died needlessly or caught TB and Leprosy from unquarrentined patients and she was known for forcibly baptising non- christian people just before death when they clearly had other things to worry about, plus her allegiances were quite questionable as well.

//Robocop. I didn't post about the Einzatzgruppen in ignorance. I'm fully aware who they were. RIP
Ordur-sur-Glane, to name just one of their attrocities. And they mostly got away with it.//

Again you are wrong and obviously do not know who the Einsatzgruppen were.
The massacre at Oradour-Sur Glane ,France was carried out by combat troops in reprisal for resistance activities including the capture of a ranking SS officer. It was carried out by 2nd SS Panzer Division ( Das Reich) and 4th SS Panzer Division (Der Fuhrer).
The Einzatsgrupen were not combat troops at all and operated in the Eastern theatre of operations. They were German and Austrian police officers (Sipo) who were tasked to follow the Axis armed forces advance in to Eastern Europe and track down and kill specifically Jews. They came under the command of Heidrich and were a key component of the Final Solution. When the Einzatsgrupen found the enormity of the task (mass extemination) was too much for them alone they recruited mainly Ukranian police officers(orpo) to assist in the mass murders.

Einzatzgruppen took no part in Oradour-sur-Glane or any other operations in the West.
You obviously are unaware of who they were and what they did so perhaps your original post on this thread was in bad taste.

Sorry to divert your OP with facts for the unaware Theland.
dying are sent to the homes to clear streets. Last Sacraments is not forced baptism. Foreign medical students practise where indian hospitals refuse beggars & untouchables.

queen stephen never looked in, his cultural concern in India was his dismay at no rainbow shops. Kids begging were told he had no change.

Fry has no integrity, and mother Theresa was evil.

Cardinal Bell on news found guilty of filthy behaviour.

RC church assisted Nazis to escape justice.

RC church assisted IRA.

Priests have a history of oppression and control of parishioners, ruling through threats and fear.

Anonymous babies graves from the Magdalene Laundries, disgraceful.

A pope who addressed the United Nations, and never once mentioned Jesus Christ. Peace - yes, and any other social action, but nothing to obey the Lord they claim to believe in.
I could be wrong, but you don't like Roman Catholics do you Theland?
Do you ever accept people on face value Theland?
Ive certainly known some creeps amongst ALL religions. Catholics and Muslims alike. This is what I dislike about intensly religious people...you are always right and the opposition is always wrong. And its not so.
YES, I understand the angst against the Catholic church. And YES I understand the angst against muslims. But I also understand the humanity that we share with each other and the love that Ive felt when working with a muslim and a catholic towards a common goal. Something that a fundamentalist belief system (such as your own) only divides further.
I'm surprised the church hasn't come out with one of it's famous sayings. Like, "God works in mysterious ways". Well here's one of my famous sayings "I hope he rots in Hell".

Nailit - My Dad was RC. I grew up in a predominantly RC area of Liverpool. Rubbish dumped on the steps and windows smashed because Dad married a Protestant.
Police could do nothing, but Mum complained to the priest and it stopped instantly.
When Dad was a kid going to school in winter in bare feet, the RC teacher would lash him and others if a minute late. Not on bum or hands, just wherever the cane landed. And then went on to teach about the love of Jesus and the rest of the RC BS.
Lunch was a two mile trek across the city centre to the soup kitchen, (Cob Hall), then back to school.
Dad insisted we kid would not be RC.
Thanks Dad.
Well they are blaming Satan, Zab..... :-)
tinkerbell - // … point being that you get horrible nasty sex offending priests/nuns aswell as bus drivers, policemen or women, butchers, bakers , candlestick makers. //

Indeed you do, but the vital difference between the clergy and the rest is that the clergy use the secrecy and adoration of their position to perpetrate their horrible abuses. Their organisation is literally tailor-made to encourage and sustain child abuse, it has depthless Machiavellian secrecy, and vested interest in not permitting anything to disturb its complacency and cash generation.

That sort of tacit support system doesn't occur for bus drivers, butchers, etc. They may conduct their horrible abuses, but they don't do it dressed in the uniforms of an organisation that claims to offer love and support to the very people it abuses on a daily basis.

In the street I grew up in, birth to 21, only two Protestant families, and mine was mixed. And everybody knew it, but all of our RC neighbours, most of them regular church goers, were the loveliest and most helpful people any body could wish for. We had a fantastic community spirit there, something that is lacking in today's society.
I do not hate RC's, they are lovely people.
I hate the evil institution that is the RC Church.
Theland, And?
Why are you condeming a whole group of people based on your own negative experience?
I could equally condemn school teachers on the same principle?
I was sexually abused by a teacher, ergo, all school teachers are pedo's and evil.
