A little learning is a dangerous thing;
drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring:
there shallow draughts intoxicate the brain,
and drinking largely sobers us again.

Wheres that quote from Tills?
Wikipedia offers some guidance as to the interpretations placed upon Genesis by the various Abrahamic faiths:

Thanks again Chris.

And thanks Tills :-)
..but I think the biblical bit is supposed to be to do with the knowledge of the difference between good and evil. Then mankind can choose. Good or evil.
Who knows?

Then Adam and Eve could not have been held responsible for bringing 'sin' into the world since they couldn't have known the difference...
The entire story does not make any any sense. (but you know that already Tills...)
No! It was Satan's fault.
This is yet another example of those on top don't want those beneath to know too much, otherwise the underlings will get ideas above their station.
It was the tree of carnal knowlege, and they threaten to fill Paradise with blooming kids !
//What exactly is wrong with knowledge?//

This is exactly what’s wrong with knowledge:

“Then the LORD God said, "Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever, so the LORD God sent him out from the garden of Eden, to cultivate the ground from which he was taken.” Genesis 3:22,23

Firstly I question who ‘Us’ might be, and secondly note that God’s (the Gods’?) creations were booted out of Eden before they could get their hands on the fruit of another useful tree.
Maybe "us" referred to God and the angelic horde.
What was wrong with living forever in paradise ?
And why was a tree of life created there ?
Just the Royal We, I expect, OG, still in use in Britain.
jno, it can't be the royal 'we'. 'Us' might have worked but 'One of us' denotes plurality.

That's easy. Its the monotheistic God speaking to his Trinitarian self
;-)
Haaaaa! But he said that long before he had a split personality. ;o)
