It been said we learned 85 per cent of what we know by listening.

Although we spend much of our time listening, we are distracted or preoccupied or we forget 75 percent of what we hear, for good reason, Jesus stressed the need to “pay attention to how you listen.” (Luke 8:18) Yes good listening shows good manners.

We usually employ the word 'listen' to things auditory, but if it is extended to include all forms of perception, which is what I believe is implied in the quote, then we may escape from the purely materialistic view, and advance some way toward enlightenment, surely the goal of human existence.

When will he speak to me?
If he does I will listen.
What you really want is people listening to goodlife.
Goodlife, I seriously wonder how you continue to get away with abusing this site - because that's what you're doing. At the very least it's advertising!
Get your God to speak, it'll make a good change from just experiencing those who claim to speak for it, and I'm sure we'll all be interested.
Why did God not design us to mind on all the 85% we learnt?
I've listened to god.... and heard nothing. Perhaps I was born into the wrong family.

I am so glad for you that you are the chosen one, goodlife.
God and Jesus were often at odds in the New Testament, so it maybe misleading to think of them as the same person.
What's the point if I'm going to forget three quarters of it?
GL - "... It been said we learned 85 per cent of what we know by listening..."

Has it? By whom and in what context? Please provide your source. Otherwise I (and others) should assume that this statement is false, or at the very least, unverifiable.

GL - "... Although we spend much of our time listening, we are distracted or preoccupied or we forget 75 percent of what we hear..."

Again, the source please. Seventy-five percent sounds like a plucked-out-of-the-air number to me.

GL - "... Yes good listening shows good manners..."

Does it now? That's interesting as you have a well deserved reputation for not listening to your detractors and utterly failing to engage with them in any meaningful way.

Why don't you practice what you preach Goodlife? You seem to use this website solely as a platform to promote Charles Taze Russell's warped world-view and it can be counted on one hand the number of times you dismount from your scriptural high horse and lower yourself to answer one of our plebeian questions.

GL - "Will You Listen To God"

No. And neither have you been doing. You've been listening to the Charles Taze Russell show and you've been taken in like a gullible fool.

The info on the above page appears to back up Goodlife's listening statistics although the original source is not stated .
Birdie , calm down . This is the religion section of the forum and you voluntarily clicked on Goodlife's question .
I honestly don't know why goodlife keeps bothering with this site. S/he must know by now that s/he is flogging a dead horse, and just giving us all a good laugh.

People are generally very polite, So when I makes a mistake, they try not to laugh. Even so, they often cannot prevent a smile from ‘letting the cat out of the bag.’ At times like this the question that comes to one’s mind is, “What did I say this time?
benhilton - "... Birdie , calm down . This is the religion section of the forum and you voluntarily clicked on Goodlife's question."

I am perfectly calm thanks. I am expressing my opinion on Goodlife's post which is exactly what I am entitled to do. As for your claim that he has posted an actual question, where is it? I see no question. I see a statement. He doesn't use this website to find out what others think - he uses it to proselytise. He routinely fails to address legitimate questions put to him and quite frankly it's getting beyond a joke.
Birdie the question is in the headline - " Will You Listen To God . "
He ended it with a full stop rather than a question mark but it IS a question .
It looks like a question .... because it's AnswerBank he words all OPs as questions ....but none of them are questions - and he's not interested in anyone's answers either. If you read Goodlife's final sentence you will realise that the purpose of his post is to tell you the answer. He is here only to preach.
" Will You Listen To God . " ? - Yes , I will do my best to listen to God , I and 1.5 billion Christians across the Earth . We may be from different denominations , we may have different interpretations , there are arguments over who is right but we have this in common , we will do our best to listen to God .
If you are not hearing the right message - and by your own admission you can't all be right - is there any point? Or do you just hope you're one of the lucky ones?
Is it possible to listen to silence?

Let us all pray that your, (or any one elses), self-appointed spokes person's accepted interpretations for what some particular alleged 'God' is telling them, isn't something that is neither in the best interest of believers nor non-believers alike.
