Jesus said: “He that is not on my side is against me.” (Matthew 12:30)

Most people think that they are serving God acceptably, but the Bible says that Satan is “misleading the entire inhabited earth.” (Revelation 12:9)

Yes,Millions of people believe that they are worshipping / not worshipping God, but they are really serving Satan the Devil.

Yes I find the overwhelming choice of religions depressing too.
From the OP, the obvious question to me is: why did God create Satan? It seems a little sadistic to me.

Goodlife - “... There is good reason to believe, says the article, that overwhelming choice at least contributes to the epidemic of unhappiness spreading through modern society...”

Are you (or rather the article) suggesting that being able to have a choice is a bad thing? If so, you're suggesting that we should just simply live in a dictatorship where a supreme leader makes all the rules and makes all our decisions for us...
That would be the pope, birdie.

To put it bluntly, you are in many ways in a dictatorship. Is authoritarian government the way to cope with the problems? What are the alternatives?

Look at the facts of history, they should tell a thinking person something about man-made governments. Has it not proved true, as long ago recorded in the Bible, that man lords it over man to his hurt also, that the course of man is not in his control, nor is it in man’s power as he goes his way to guide his steps (Eccl. 8:9)

But, yes you can say, that is hopeless, negative thinking, and besides, there is no alternative. We have to keep trying. However, after seeing thousand years of trying, is it negative thinking or is it realistic thinking that points to such conclusions, but facing up to the truth may be bitter medicine, but it is the best medicine, because it open your mind, otherwise a closed minds to the real solution.
Goodlife, you seem to think that your statement about Satan “misleading the entire inhabited earth.” doesn't include Jehovah's Witnesses? Do you think they are exempt?
Goodlife - //To put it bluntly, you are in many ways in a dictatorship. Is authoritarian government the way to cope with the problems? What are the alternatives? //
Well I suppose the alternative you are suggesting involves worshipping a god.
So how is this meant to help. It won't replace the dictatorship it will just add another dictator.
Think it through man.

No one is exempt from unforeseen occurrence.(Eccl. 9:11) we are all getting older and the calamitous days that accompany advancing age limits what one is able to do.

Jehovahs Witnesses are not perfect. Anyone is capable of being misled. Even you!
The point is that by sticking closely to our God Jehovah, as Jehovah’s witnesses we are aware of the lies put forth through various worldly sources.
Goodlife, that doesn't answer the question. You said that Satan is misleading the entire inhabited earth. Therefore it follows that he must be misleading you too. No?
I'd take..

"Jehovahs Witnesses are not perfect. Anyone is capable of being misled"

as an answer.
You aren't asking for an answer. I am.
Well good luck with that.
Thank you - although I don't hold out much hope of getting a rational answer to a very rational question.

Naomi, I answered the question. Obviously you have to have everything set out word for word as you would for a child.
I quote
Jehovahs Witnesses are not perfect. Anyone is capable of being misled.
This is why we are admonished to check out for ourselves and make sure of the more important things" - Philipians 1 v 10.
