Does the mystery of death scare you? The fact that at one point it will all go black and you'll never see anyone you love ever again or be able to enjoy the things in life that you love so much?

The more i think about it the more frightened i become as i love life and all in it and to one day have all that is dear to me ripped away and me thrown into the dark abyss or void if you like really scares and saddens me.

How do you deal with the certainty that this will happen to you one day?

Yes, I went through such a phase, and I do sympathise with your feelings - you will grow out of it though. Just hang in there and fill your mind with other more pleasant matters.
Bit like OG says but with me it was my childhood. Strict Catholic upbringing and I was dreading dying before I could go to confession and get the priest to forgive me for a white lie or something similar....I lived in fear of hell or at least purgatory where my family could buy me out.
Mid teens I saw friends die on motorbikes but I guess by then I was immortal and saw no need for a helmet...or to ride slower.
I did worry a bit about dying and leaving young children but now...it'll happen and I hope it takes me by surprise.....but not until I have enjoyed my savings... ;-) x
Does death scare me?
Not in he slightest. I came from stars and I'll go back to stars.
I believe that when i die I will be back with my late DH in some way. I have responsibilities on earth now so i can't go yet but i will be glad when i do.
woofgang, I really hope your wishes are fulfilled when the time is right. xx
Ratter, thank you, me too. Of course if they aren't then I won't know lol (well you have to laugh don't you?)
^^ :-))
Woody Allen once said that he didn't fear but didn't want to be there when it happened.

I am petrified by the thought of a slow death, from a wasting disease, or something similar. I have every intention of ending my own life before the situation arises, although we are not always given much warning I suppose.

As an atheist, I have no belief and therefore no fear of what happens after I stop breathing.......there is no "afterlife"
Strange things, i have baby sat for my Grandchildren from their age of a few weeks, and in the first few months after they became aware, they suddenly started to know things that they shouldn;t for that age, occassionally actually saying what sounded like a phrase, even though they couldn't talk yet.
This " been here before" syndrome slowly passes as they become more aware of their surroundings, and they partake in modern day life..I come to the conclusion, that apart from baldness, red hair, blonde hair, etc. that a load of info is also passed from the brain, so the babies are born with memories of a past life, which erodes as they age. I am certain of this 100%. maybe other people have seen this?
My greatest fear is that my death should bring to anyone a moment's sadness . . . I strive to live my life in such as way as to ensure that that will never happen. ;o)
Not scared of actually being dead, i go to sleep every nught and don't know anything til i wake up. death presumeably is just like that without the waking up in the morning,
Wouldn't like to have a slow painful death......but then who would!
I am afraid of dying...I often wonder how I will die, accident, drowning, suffocation or illness or something else. Of course it's great of the unknown as no one can tell you what it feels like to die.
Everyone I get into my car I think to myself I could die today.
*Everytime* damn phone
Yes, at my age. But when I get old, it won't. Old people are remarkably calm about dying.
Death doesn't bother me, actually dying petrifies me.............
No

If there turns out to be a Hell, see many of you in there for one hell of an AB get-together.
Like ops - it would be the lingering sickness before death would worry me so. Know so many people went to bed and didn't wake up - that is a nice death.
I am 45 (tomorrow) so can't be considered old, I am very calm about the fact I am going to die young, in fact I upset my daughter the other day when I told her my GP thinks I may be entering end stage in the disease process, this stage can last for a few years so I am not expecting to pop my clogs in the next few months. She doesn't understand why I am not upset and frightened by it all.
when I entered this site thought it would depress me - but have had a quare laugh at some of the answers.
Daffy - very sorry to hear of your emphysema - must be terrible for you.
