Do you want them to pop their clogs in that order modeller?. LOL

On the basis of irritability I think in reverse order .
My opinion is that - prayers should be the praying person's own thoughts and words, not rattling off someone else composition. And praying do work if one has faith, and believe.

you are a bit behind -ps died 4 years ago

society I do agree, if you believe that your prayers work , then they do.

Not sure about the composition though. Are you saying I shouldn't use my book of Common Prayer ? I didn't compose any of them either.
Should have made myself clear, I meant like your original post, stuff like that.
Rest assured, in time all of the above will be answered.
Society, //prayers should be the praying person's own thoughts and words, not rattling off someone else composition.//

I’ve always thought that too. Never could see the point of repeating someone else’s words – and now I can’t see the point of saying anything at all. ;o)
As the saying goes "we are all in the queue, just which number you are".
Pray all you like, it ain't gonna happen! We'll just have to wait till the next general election and vote for a party no one ever thought would win.
If your post is meant to be funny, it isn't. Religionists. of which I'm not one, should surely protest about a prayer for peoples deaths!
Generally religionists pray and pray but only remember the ones which are apparently "answered" .
I just don't see the purpose of you wasting your time and AB space!
SIQ.

Maybe you should have posted this in Jokes so as not to offend anyone.
Anybody know the prayer to turn water into wine - preferably a Ch. St Pierre 1995 please - or a La Tache......?
Question Author
SIQ Sorry to offend but I heard it at a talk given our vicar to 50 people and they roared with laughter. I won't tell you the other religious jokes he told us it may upset you. Don't you watch Father Ted for a bit of fun.
Prayer doesn't work. Many weapons were blessed before they were taken into war, but they still killed and maimed many people who were shot.

Or was that the idea of the blessing?
Prayer /pre(ə)r/
Noun;
1) A solemn request for help or expression of thanks addressed to God or an object of worship.
2) A religious service, esp. a regular one, at which people gather in order to pray together.
3) Spiritual onanism.
I have read your post modeller and do realise your prayers are directed sorry as far as I am concerned at the people who have prayers - there are other OPs big time who need your prayers- I guess the above people do have their own relatives who pray for them - let's not forget those who don't have anybody to pray for them. To all those whether you believe or not but I am one who does believe and what you and also others prayers have got me through. I do have two cousins two nuns (two sisters) they pray for me every day and I do think they got me through 2011 (sorry for being boring re 2011).

Obviously you can 'believe' whatever you like but unfortunately the efficacy of prayer has been shown to be zero when tested empirically with all the proper controls. It's as useful as wishing for the tooth fairy to give you money for your teeth.

Prayer it seems, is just well meaning wishful thinking. Ineffective though it may be in influencing a hypothetical creator deity to intervene in human affairs, it is nevertheless useful in helping people who believe in such things feel good about themselves and others. In that regard, prayer is a harmless psychological crutch.
I am not a politically correct person - never ever have been - but what about the respect when Princess Di died and others after her ie young soldiers in Afghanistan and other countries who died for their countries - I feel there was some religious aspect paid to those who sacrificed their lives for their countries - also the queen paying respects to the poppies thingmajig - surely there is a religious context there.
The tooth fairy giving money for deciduous teeth? Always worked for me. Maybe I should try prayer after all.
